Car hire in three easy steps

1. When booking your car you will need to:
  • Be aged 23 or over at the date of rental
  • Have a full, clean driving licence for at least a year
  • Have a valid payment card for Pay Now rates
  • Provide us with your dates and times of travel
  • Select your Avis car rental location(s)
  • Select the kind of car you’d like to drive

2. When collecting your car you will need to:
  • Show us your driving licence and credit card
  • Choose any additional cover that you would like
  • Decide which fuel option works for you
  • Check and sign your rental agreement if you are not an Avis Preferred member
  • Check the car for any existing damage

3. When returning your car you need to:
  • Check the car for any existing damage
  • Please try and return your car by the agreed time
  • Return your keys to the Avis desk, or use Rapid Return, our mobile check-in service
  • Avis will check for damage and fuel level
  • Final payment for your total rental will be processed, and you will be sent an invoice through post or email

Rapid Return is in operation in over 125 Avis locations across Europe, and are currently in 21 of our locations in the UK including all the major airports Rapid Return can process car return in as little as 60 seconds from start to finish, getting you on your way quicker.

How it works When returning your car an Avis agent who, using the new technology, reads a barcode on the vehicle and uploads your rental information. A final receipt for the rental is then issued including mileage used and fuel level in your presence The receipt can be issued in seven different languages.

We have simplified the Rental Agreement form, including:

  • No jargon
  • Prices are clearly displayed
  • Includes 'Vehicle condition' and 'Fuel gauge'
  • Sign your signature only once
  • Available in 8 languages
